TAMMY-GIRL'S FIRST REAL BUMPER BLOGPOST

GREETINGS FROM SUNNY SOUTH AFRICA!
TAMMY-GIRL  here...
Hello there everybody!
This is the first blogpost which I  am putting up all by myself!
I hope you are going to like it!
It's a bumper post today with lots and lots of photographs.
You see, there is so much excitement here in my city of
JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA!

Next friday (11June 2010) is the kick-off day to the

FIFA SOCCER WORLD CUP 2010

and the excitement in our city is almost at fever pitch level. So many of our visitors have already arrived and are settling down to see all the attractions which our country is offering. Today Maxmom and my human family went off to one of the big shopping centres to see some of the activity.
Our grocery stores are also in with the spirit of welcoming all the countries...
So many interesting things are on the shelves:
Chocolate soccer balls...
Chocolate soccer shoes...
Our roads and highways are filled with flags...
Many cars have 'socks' which are put on rear-view mirrors and which sport the colours of the flag...
Our street-sellers are out en masse...
Cars are decorated in many ways with flags...
At the shopping centre which Maxmom visited, there was a special car...
Look at the beautifully painted 'Soccer World Cup' on its side...
There was so much activity on with many people in a festive spirit:
Beat-boxers entertained the crowds...
Skilled soccer players were giving demonstrations on ball control...
The highlight at this particular gathering was the "BIG BANNER".  Over the past couple of weeks, the organisers of this "BIG BANNER" - a local radio station - have visited various shopping centres and handed out canvasses for the public to paint...
Each block (and there are thousands) is going towards making up a giant banner to support our team:
BAFANA BAFANA
and the banner will be up at the opening game for the world to see. If you are watching the opening game, you may see it on TV.
Each group of people who painted a block have had their photographs taken...
(Unfortunately Maxmom got there too late)
These are some of the canvasses which were collected today...
There was a makeshift soccer field for the children to play on...
...and dancers to teach the public how to
Diski Dance
(The official dance of the SWC)
There were funny hats for sale...

...and shops full of SWC supporters clothing...
Exclusive teddy bears...
Not only were there...
VUVUZELAS
(The big noisy horns)
...but there were also...
"KUDU-ZELAS"
(shaped like the horn of the Kudu antelope)
...they make a very loud noise indeed!...
Anyway, when Maxmom got home, I had a word with her..
"Maxmom...?"
"Yes, Tammy-girl, what is it sweety?"
"Maxmom...mmm...
I think we should put some of this World cup Spirit into our own house!"

"What do you suggest, Tammy-girl?"
"psst....mumble...mumble...mumble"
"Very good idea Tams'...I'll get the others..."
They listened to me!
I wanted them to get all the flags for the countries of my friends across the world.
I want you to know that, not only am I going to support
SOUTH AFRICA!
But I am also going to support
ALL THE TEAMS too...!!!
(I really do love you all!)
So the humans set about putting up flags on the front of our house...

After that Maxmom and I lay on the grass and soaked up the sun...
I think I have got the right thing going with this Soccer World cup thingy...
My house now has all the flags!!!
Have you seen your flag yet?
I promise you...ALL 32 countries are up!
(psst...USA is in the middle! Bad photo..sorry..)

Thank you so much for reading my first real post.
Have a wonderful happy weekend...and please join me in this exciting build up to the...
FIFA SOCCER WORLD CUP
2010
SOUTH AFRICA!!!

Very nice post Tammy, we can almost feel the waves of excitement coming out from South Africa. Gail smiled when she saw the England flag, although she has been looking a bit glum since we heard that the England captain injured himself in training and will miss the tournament...
Toodle pip!
Bertie
PS Tammy, you are clearly a very clever lady, perhaps you could advise on whether or not I too should be supporting England..?

You are a natural, Tammy Girl! What a nice post! ...and what a great idea you had with hanging all the flags - I saw the German flag too. I talked to my mother in Germany today and her cousin, Matilde Koerper, lives in Johannesburg too - but I have to find out her address, maybe you know her (which would be amazing, because Johannesburg is a very big place and why would you know a 77 year old women from Germany?

Well, looks like everyone's all geared up for the big soccer game, so be safe and I hope all goes well without any mishaps - remember, safety first! (stay close to mom!)

Love you,
Doris, Gizzy and Middi :-)

You did a fabulous job, Tammy! It is so great for us who are so far away to get an insider's view of how people in SA are getting ready for the World Cup.

We saw the French flag but we will NOT be supporting them after what they did to Ireland in their qualifier. So, it will be England for us!... or maybe Japan?????

Dear Tammy,

This is a wonderful "first real bumper blogpost" from you, because mum and I can sense your excitement as you tell us about the world cup. While you may have been quiet in the past, you obvioulsy were observing Max and have learnt well from him.

Your idea, for you and your family to put up flags of the 32 countries, is wonderful. We could see our New Zealand flag in four of your photos! In the first round we are supporting NZ - after that we will have to see. Mum was drooling at the sight of Thornton's chocolate balls and shoes - as she remembers their chocolate from when she lived in England, and although you can sometimes buy it here it never tastes the same as she remembers.

Woofs,
Riley

We love reading about all the excitment leading up to the World Cup! The flags outside your house are great!

We smiled at the Poupounette's comment - they are very good remembering how 'we so nearly' got there!

Guess, we'll be shouting for any country other than France!

Looking forward to more footie updates!
