GREETINGS FROM SOUTH AFRICA!
TOBY'S MAXMOM here...
Hello there to all my friends around the world!
It has been a truly glorious day here in Johannesburg, South Africa. We've had very pleasant temperatures recently - in the 20's (centigrade) - and clear sunny skies. Unfortunately the pool is still a little chilly for swimming, but it's been the kind of day to simply sit in the garden and enjoy the splendour of Spring.
All the dogs are well. King-Toffee is really quite comfortable with Toby now and Tammy-Girl has officially adopted the little pup.
Sometimes though, he's too energetic for her liking and she retreats to safer ground.
Our dear little Toby puppy has turned into a little
"Toned up, 'Telligent, Toby Terrorist!"
He is 8 weeks old now!
He's quite adorable and has made marvellous progress this week. He's been an absolute star during the nights and has made no puddles or landmines in the house either! He wakes up only once during the night for his garden call and is more than happy to go back to sleep.
I suspect it is all his physical activity during the day that prompts this restful night time. ASTA and TOBY are having regular "Puppy-Play Goup" sessions on week-day mornings and they romp and play with total abandon. It is a joy to watch their youthful energy.
Toby now responds to his name! He does excellent (and fast) "Toby" recalls and "Sits" nicely for a treat.
He loves his food and knows that he can come to me for protection (when he gets a fright or is a little uncertain). Generally though, he is a really confident little pup with an adventurous streak. He scouts the garden and has unearthed all sorts of things that I didn't know were there. In summary, he keeps me on my toes....and I am loving it!
Toby got his first bath today. This is NOT because he is dirty, but simply to accustom him early to this routine.
He was a little scared at first, but we worked through it nicely.
He also had his first nail trim as well as a trim of his fur under his foot pads.
(In a Golden Retriever it is important for them to get accustomed to these things....Their feet can be really ticklish and if you don't start early, you will always battle).
He looked absolutely gorgeous after his bath!...
All in all, it's been a wonderful week!
I'm sorry that I've not got around to many of your blogs...it's been a hectic week (besides Toby's arrrival). Please know that I do appreciate all of you - my special cyber-friends!
Thank you for your love and your friendship.
Wishing you all a very happy and wonderful week...

Dear Toby,
Thanks for all the photos and posts during your first week. It is wonderful to see how you are growing up so fast while also making Maxmom so happy.
I have ticklish feet so my mum and I always play "my game" when she tries to trim them or trim my black nails. Your mum is so wise to start bathing you and getting you used to having your feet looked after so early!

Watching Toby this week has been a pure delight! Toby and Tammy-Girl look adorable together! I love the floofy look after the bath!!! Give that little guy tummy rubs and kisses from us please! Lots of love, Debbie and Holly
I'm glad that Toby has settled in so nicely and that King Toffee has adjusted. I worried about King Toffee.
I was just thinking Shiver could use another bath. I gave him one earlier this summer but the shampoo I used on him didn't seem to get him very clean. I bought it from the pet store so I thought it would work better. He did smell better afterwards, at least.
Looks like you and Toby have had a very busy week! Hard to believe he's only 8 weeks old. Time flies when you're having fun!
Toby you sure are a cutie pie. A whole big world to explore for the first time must be so much fun

We always knew that Toby would be a star, yes, we knew that. How did we know that? Because we believe that Maxdog sent little Toby to you - dogs have a way of caring for the humans that they loved on earth - even after they are gone to heaven. I think that Toby knows he has some pretty big paws to fill but that he also knows he will have his 'special angel' whispering in his ear to help him through the rough spots.
Dear, sweet Toby, you are making people all over the world smile. That is a furry, furry good thing.
Marvelous to meet your sweet little Toby!! Sending our best wishes to your new addition. Love you much!!

We have this very strong feeling that a certain MaxDog at the Bridge is looking down on young Toby with a big grin. All is well again in his world.
Your mom is so right about getting your tootsies accustomed to being handled at your young age, Toby!
I got a bath yesterday too!
Love ya lots
Maggie
Hi Toby
Neeli here again - I got a bath yesterday too! And I remember those puppy baths - they'll be fun as you get older - especially chasing the water from the hose!
And just think Caryl - this was the "quiet, laid-back" pup in the litter! I remember that with Neeli too (she was the smallest, quietest one) - Ha! Once she came home, just ask Apples what she thought of those first weeks!!!
Puppies grow quickly - and he's such a sweetie. Looking forward to your next posts.

What a handsome, smart boy he is. This washes waves of memories over me, thinking of my last GR puppy Devo. Thanks for giving us a window into the world of Toby. Its just wonderful. and....he is getting BIG!! wow
You trimmed Toby's toehawks? Oh no!!!
We are glad he is settling in well, and everyone is getting used to each other.
Oh my gosh, he is so adorable and fluffy! It is wonderful that he is getting along so well and being accepted by the others. Thank you for sharing all the cute pictures.
Kisses,
Emma Rose
So lovely to celebrate Toby's first week the same day as Lilac's 15th birthday! Dogs really do make life more special. Cheers, Toby and Lilac!
