TUBBY TOBY... 24 HOURS!

GREETINGS FROM SOUTH AFRICA!!!
MAXMOM here...
Hello there to all my friends across the world!
Whew! Why didn't you guys tell me that puppies are such hard work!?

("Mom!...give me that potplant back!")
After a sleepless night, the first thing that our little pup did was to sniff out the place I was hoping he wouldn't sniff out...and to sample one of my pot plants.
Then he claimed the big dogs' bed in our bedroom....

(Toby trying to take over prime sleeping space!)

I'm exhausted and TUBBY TOBY hasn't been home for more than 24 hours yet!
Oh man, he's adorable!
(Toby has taken to sleeping "IN" his water bowl!)
I had very little sleep last night (as expected) but I suppose that this will be the first of many. Tammy-Girl and King Toffee are very uncertain about the changes under our roof at the moment, but I am sure that with a little time all will settle.
Tammy is keen to adopt the little one, but is still not quite sure how this is done.
(Golden friends)
If you thought that King Toffee is absent from the above photo, think again!....If you look carefully, you can observe him admiring himself in the wall mirror in our lounge
(Right back of photo).

The mirror has become a souce of great entertainment....to Toby...who thinks that:
"It is good to bark back at a puppy that is barking at you!".
We visited the Vet this morning to get TUBBY TOBY micro-chipped
(I don't want to have any concerns about him being 'lost' and not being "found")
and then we came home to meet up with ASTA (the guide dog puppy).
We had tea in the garden...
It was 'fun' at first sight!
The two of them are going to be very good playmates, it seems.

They romped and rolled and shared toys.

Then they played in the water sprinkler...

TOBY knows to seek refuge under the chair when he's had enough playing.

TAMMY-GIRL and KING TOFFEE took one look at the prevailing puppy energy and retreated to safer ground.

Eventually TOBY 'called it a day' and opted to sleep up some more energy on the cool grass.

Later he retired to the "cool" of the bathroom tiles...

I don't feel so young anymore...any advice on how to retain my own energy? :)
I love the little mite to bits!
But now I am off to try and get some 'shut-eye' too! :)
Sending some of my love to you too...

I knew he'd be reorganizing the pack!!! I confess I miss those days of puppyhood -- all too frenetic but all too brief.

So now you'll have to do what the doggies do -- snooze when you can!!

Well I was hoping for a 'first day' report and you didn't disappoint. What an exciting and varied day he had. As for coping with the tiredness when one is no longer so young oneself - I just kept telling myself that at least it's not like a human baby, and the disturbed nights can be measured in terms of weeks not years! Plus, would you rather NOT have the puppy? Thought not!
Cheers, Gail.
PS Bertie here: Enough of the cute photos, we need more details - just how much of the plant did you chew Toby? Have you widdled on any precious rugs yet? How many times did you make Mum get up and cuddle you during the night?

Oh sooooo adorable! While I was just writing a comment on yesterday's post, I almost blurted out what hard work a puppy was - (still is!!!), but it's wonderful work as you know! I think puppies were made as cute as they are so we can't possibly resist their charms no matter what they've gotten themselves into! And Tammy will truly be a great sister when she figures it all out and King Toffee? He'll figure it out too in his own magical way! It's YOU who needs the shut-eye though, as you say! Kisses to that wonderful bundle of fur and to Toffee and the King too!

Oh yes, the other side of puppydom - it does get better, just takes time. Are you crating Toby at night? That's what the Momster found works best. He is so cute - bet you really don't mind those lost winks of sleep.

First, he is gonna be a BIG BOY. When I look at Toby and Asta together it comes home to me that she is a bit older but not all that much larger!

Second, sleep? I think I mentioned to you that sleep would be all but a fond memory! Caryl, sleep when he sleeps that is the best I can offer to you. Remember when you were a young mother - you napped when the baby napped!

We're with Bertie! How many widdles and poos have you stepped into? Give us the details that are less cute and more 'down to earth'☺

I have decided that a puppy really is so much like a baby and your precious Toby is, in my opinion a lot more irresistible!! I'm glad you're enjoying him and I hope you get your rest--You'll need it when he starts playing again at 2 AM or needs to go out! :-)))

Oh my, Toby is too wonderful for words....so, I'll just shut-up and bask in his holiness' cuteness. Welcome Toby....and Mom, get some sleep. You'll need it to run the "keep up with Toby" marathon. Also, so glad to see Tammy is keen to bond. That is so like her.

Ah puppies! #1 rememebers fondly (NOT!) getting up every night that first winter between 3 and 4am to take Tommy out. A state of utter zombiedom was achieved! Hang in there!

I was walking around with sticks holding my eyes open for about 3 weeks, taking him to pottie in the night, after that time at least he was happy in his crate all night, two tips that might help, we fenced off just a part of the garden knowing he would be ok and not eat any plants, and try and get 40 winks when he's sleeping!!!
Lovely photos

Hello Tubby Toby!

You are quite a handful BUT truly adorable! Piappies Mom is trying her best not to reach into the monitor to pinch your cheeks or give you belly rubs!

Asta will definitely provide the exercise for Tubby Toby and we are sure Tammy and King Toffee will soon warm up to that cuddly lil one.

Napping while he zzzzes away is a great idea to keep up with him. =)

Your little Toby is SO sweet and cute!!! Puppies are a lot of work at first but definitely worth it! It sure seems to go by really quick. I had lots of luck with Holly by crating her at night and she never had but one accident in the house as a puppy. Of course, out of the crate, she was wild and crazy with so much energy. You will love every minute of it though! Lots of love, Debbie and Holly

Toby is just adorable - we loved the last two posts - Murray was thrilled to see him at home with you. Asta is gorgerous too and the photos of the two of them playing are fantastic and Murray immediately noticed both Toby (in yesterday's post) and Asta today playing with the IGDB frisbee! He was more than pleased!

We were talking with friends at a football match yesterday who have a 12 week old husky puppy and are worn out with her at night! We suggested crating her at night as all the IGDB pups are crated and it seems to work really well.

Anyway, it is really lovely to see Toby at home with you all and we wish you all years of pleasure with him.

I had never had a puppy before, all my dogs were a year or more older when I'd gotten them so it was quite a shock when I got Shiver as a puppy. Wow, what a difference! The first month or two were fine but then he woke me up chewing on my ear one evening. I tried pushing off me and he began to chew on my fingers, thinking it was a game. That was a looooooooong night as were the next several weeks. It does get better though.
