LETS GET EXCITED!

GREETINGS FROM SOUTH AFRICA!
MAXMOM here...

Hello there dear friends!
Yes, whilst we were otherwise occupied, the big day has crept up on us.
There are only
10 days left
before the kickoff of the
FIFA SOCCER WORLD CUP 2010!

There is a frenzy of activity taking place in our city and a buzz of excitement.  Shopping centres are filled with welcoming flags to the various countries and guests to our shores...

We have been trying to get into the spirit of things and so we bought
KING TOFFEE
a soccer ball his size to play with.
It is was probably this size and made of foam rubber...

THE KING
was absolutely delighted with his gift and set about chasing it up and down the passage.
He was so delighted that something in his tiny brain short-circuited...

This is what is left...

I don't think I am going to buy him a
VUVUZELA!
...I can just imagine all those beads on the carpet...
Most folk are driving around with flags on their cars...mainly South African flags at the moment, but some have an assortment.
We are wondering what teams we should support besides our own
'BAFANA BAFANA'

The word, "Bafana Bafana" is taken from the Nguni language and basically means...
"THE BOYS"
Our team is enterred in this competition because we are the host nation.  It seems that we are the under-dogs, but simply because of this fact our country is rallying behind our team...

We will be delighted if we make it through to the second round...
and so much more if we progress even further.
Any ideas as to which other team you would like us to support????

On to doggie - matters and this time, its NOT the underdog, but the new and almost TOP dog in our household...
KING TOFFEE...

He reckoned he wants to be included in the fun that is happening at:

These poochies have graciously organised a
RED BANDANNA (OR WHATEVER) DAY
for us all and this is happening on the 10th June!!!
So go over there and participate!!!

Here are the 4 easy steps to play along in this fun event:

KING TOFFEE
says I must remind you again of what his entry looks like:

Take care and lotsaluv to you all...

Weeeee King Toffee!

You got something in common with us piappies! We looooove doing the same thing with the some (maybe most) of the toys we get from Mommy. The strange thing is, the basketball and football toys of Fudgie are the ONLY ones that have stayed undamaged. Fudgie probably has successfully kept a close watch with his fave toys especially after he lost his fave Mr. Ball last year.

We are with you in excitement for the World Cup! Mommy needs helps from her friends to explain the technicalities of the game though since she's no expert in soccer. It's great that it is being held there in South Africa for you get to feel the excitement and we got you to tell us about it. Weeeeeee

We are all looking for our red stuff for the Red Bandana Day. You look so regal and lovable in that photo, King Toffee!

Love lots,

-Fudgie, Princess, Frappie, Mocha, Sugar, Wai-Pai, Wai-Max & the Piappies

So then are we the Barkalot Bafanas?

Or the Barkalot Bafanas Bafanas?

We've been reading a lot about the FIFA cup and can just imagine the excitement. Kind of like what happens here at Super Bowl time, but on steroids!!!

Have you seen the article about South Africa in this month's National Geographic?

We'll be following!!

That poor soccer ball, well it probably lasted longer than it would have here.

Well we are still having a debate about who to support in this household. Bertie will of course keep faith with Hamish's promise and be supporting South Africa. But the big question is, will he support England or the USA when they play their opening game. I am still trying to persuade Bertie that as he is an English breed and lives with an Englishwoman, the of course he should support England. But my mistake has been to take him to the local park and let him mix with the neighbours, and as a result he seems to be fast absorbing the local culture and attitudes which dictate that you should support whichever team England is playing against. Also, he points out that on his blog he has more readers and followers from the USA than from England. What to do???!!! As you point out, we only have 10 days left to resolve this dilemma! Should I maybe foster him out to my next-door neighbours for the duration? (We notice that several large Scotland flag towels and t-shirts are often drying on their washing line).
Cheers, Gail.

Wow, soccermania is everywhere! Every time I talk to my sis in Germany, they're watching the soccer games... I'm not into sports (anymore) but would love to play that game with Gizzy - I'll find something red for him to wear. Thanks for letting us know.
I guess King doggy hatted that ball you got him because he tore the tar out of it ;-)
Enjoy your week!

Wow it sounds like things are getting very exciting over there! And it sounds like King Toffee is excited too - too bad he showed it with his cool new ball! We don't know anything about soccer so I am not sure who to recommend cheering for - but we hope your team does well!

It looks like you all are ready to celebrate!
We wanted Toffee to know that we thinks he looks good in his red. We are going to play too if mommy can find something for us to wear!
Enjoy the festivities.

Wow, King Toffee is really in the soccer spirit!! I can just see how the progression went - this ball is really fun, wow, i love chasing this ball and whoops, I bit it, wow that felt good,,,,and the next thing he knew...there was only half a ball left. Wow, it feels good to get out pent up frustration!! He's so cute with his apologetic face looking at his ball.
Go S. Africa and Go USA!

My Shiver is quite the chewer and even though he's gotten much better as he's gotten older, I still have to watch him. I'm pretty sure he would've chewed up that soccer ball too!

King Toffee looks adorable with his heart and roses!

King Toffee's ball looks just like the one's owned by my son Jeff's dogs. Cody is terrible with his toys! In fact, he's so bad that Jeff's wife will only buy his stuffies at yard sales!

We are getting our photos done for the June 10th line up at The Portuguese Water Blog, too. Momma even wants to do some with the kitties, BOL!

Uhm, who to cheer for - let's see - we will cheer for - uhm, we'll cheer for South Africa. Yes, we know we live in the US but we like to support the under-dog!

Oh dear, King Toffee, it looks like you shredded that wonderful ball toy. Isn't that what puppies are supposed to do.
Looks like tons of excitement in your city. What fun to be hosts for the Soccer games.
Have a wonderful day.

King Toffee looks very cute with his red heart and roses. Mum wants to dress me up for red bandana day too.

For the World Cup I’m supporting New Zealand as this is only the second time we’ve been in the World Cup (the last was 28 years ago) and, like South Africa, we are considered to be under-dogs, but underdogs can surprise people! Last weekend our team played a friendly game against Serbia. We are ranked 78th in the world, they are 15th but we won 1-0, so our country is getting excited as who knows might happen. It would be great if we got past the first round!

We're still talking about that video you put up of the birth of the painting...it was a lovely parallel of Max's life and the portrait's beginnings...very very well done...

Love and kisses, especially to the King there....

I know you are very excited about the WC Inauguration and we are worried here!
There are internal issues in our team due to the elimination of one of the players from the final list!
Sure Toffee was busy!
