PUPPY SOCIALISATION...the preparation...

GREETINGS FROM SOUTH AFRICA!!!
MAXMOM here...
Hello there to all our friends across the world!

My friend - Lorraine - took home her guide dog puppy yesterday.
What excitement!!!

The little mite is only 6 weeks old at the moment and they are still waiting to hear what name has been allocated to her...

...It could be "Abbey" or "Ashley"...?

We'll just have to wait and see...
For the moment, she's called
"Puppy"...

TAMMY-GIRL and I went to visit them today...
to meet the new pup and have tea in their garden...

TAMMY-GIRL...
is a really sweet dog and we thought she'd be the perfect dog to begin little "Puppy"'s socialisation.

I also think this is a wonderful opportunity for our
TAMMY-GIRL
to start getting accustomed to the idea of having a puppy around her ankles.
I am hoping that she will embrace her 'mothering' instinct
and help to guide the process of integration into our own household
(of our own puppy who will be arriving - in 7 weeks time)

Once my pup is around, all our dogs (including this little Guide Dog 'puppy') should be spending a lot of time together...

I am really so proud of our TAMMY-GIRL!
She is a natural with puppies (although she's never had a litter of her own) and she was an absolute **star** with the little puppy today!
Well done, Tammy-Girl!

As for
KING TOFFEE...
He's going to be another story.

There is no doubt that his status in the household will be unaffected by the new puppy!
Afterall, he will always remain...
THE KING OF LAPS!!!
Congratulations Lorraine, on your new Guide Dog Puppy!
We know you are going to be an amazing
"Puppy Walker"!!!

Sending lotsaluv to everybody!

Congrats Lorraine!

There is no amount of patience that will withstand the assault of a midget baby labradork. I expect Miss Tammy will be showing the little tyke who is the big dog now and then.

Ah yes, socialisation. I seem to remember hearing that word a lot. And do you know, I am slowly learning that not all dogs, especially grumpy old fellas, like to be approached at 60 mph and jumped on by a bouncing, yapping ball of energy. Personally, I don't know why not, but that's how it is!
But oh that baby labrador is SO cute.
Toodle pip!

That little face is RIPE for kissing - right on the lips☺ We knew that Tammy would be a star with the little one. Being around new life brings new life into one's soul and we are sure that everyone - everyone - will find the puppies to be the 'fountain of youth'.

Hugs to all and Caryl, please give that pup a snuggle for me the next time you go for tea. What a roly-poly little gal!

Puppy, puppy, puppy! I'm not surprised that Tammy was a star after hearing about her personality for you. She's a sweetie. And, that little black lab pup reminds of our R a few years ago. Pups are so wonderful! But, that socialization and other training seems to take over life for a while, in a good way, of course!

You look so sweet Ms Tammy Girl! A puppy is good for the soul - especially after losing one's heart dog. Looking forward to more pictures,

You must be going wild with anticipation. What a sweet thing to do for Tammy - a perfect, gentle , breaking exercise. Will Toffee even deign to notice?

Such a sweet puppy! Tammy looks quite content with the little mite. We have a couple of puppies in the buidling now - an adorable mocha colored labradoodle named Ella that's just a bunch of fluff, and an equally adorable mastiff pup named Titus. He's just 4 1/2 months old and already 65 lbs. with paws the size of salad bowls. I am very careful to make sure that Petey socializes with Titus as he could easily turn Petey into snack food or a destuffed stuffie! So far, so good. Petey seems to take his role as Senior Statesman in stride with these youngsters. Good luck with King Toffee!

Your pals,

Petey and his Mom

"Puppy" is just the cutest little thing. Who could not love that face? Way to go Tammy, you are a natural and so patient. Soon you'll have one of your very own! I'm sure King Toffee will be spending lots of time above all the puppy play...if he has any say as king!

What a sweetheart, and to be a service dog in training, a noble cause for sure.
Tammy will just be wonderful with the new pup and will take her role as big sister very seriously.

Very cute, and a great way for Tammy and the puppy to start their friendship. Will King Toffee and the guide puppy get to meet like this too - while Toffee can still look the young one in the eye?

That little puppy is so adorable! It almost makes me miss having a little one around!

There is just no way I could raise one and give it away a year later. Lorraine must be a very special person to do that.

Hello little puppy! We are a large family of cats. We like dogs and a few of us like dogs better than other cats.
You have a big life ahead of you, little one. God bless you.

Oh Caryl I sure do envy you! That wiggley little being, that puppy breath, oh how I love it!

I had NO doubt that Tammy Girl would be wonderful with a litte one. Now she will be a star when it comes to her own little sister coming home!

As far as King goes, well, ah, yeah.

Peace, Blu and Tessa too

She sure is a cute little thing!

I've always found that ours teach the new additions the ropes rather quickly, not necessarily by mothering them, actually, never in that way, but by leading by example. I'm sure the new little guy will learn pretty quickly from the old guard!

The puppy is just ADORABLE! And Tammy-girl was a SOOPER-STAR today.

This is going to be great... two puppies to follow, and with a wonderful Auntie Tammy to help them grow into proper dogs! I'm also following Rudy the new pup that Toby's Trainer is raising to be a Guide Dog hopefully!

Life goes on and fills up with things to do, doesn't it!

Well down Tammy girl, very well done. What a GReat way to help socialize Ms. Puppy. The patience of Goldens is a GReat gift. That pup is soooo cute. Ms. Tammy will be definitely taking care of her new brother when he comes home. We're counting the weeks with excitement. Kudos tp Ms. lorraine for being such an unselfish trainer/walker.
