A SUNDOG IN THE JOHANNESBURG SKIES!

GREETINGS FROM SOUTH AFRICA!
TOBY here...
Hello there to every furry buddy...

We had an amazing thing happen in our city this morning...

A SUN DOG APPEARED IN OUR SKIES...

I don't know why they call this phenomenon a 'Sundog', but they do...
Does anyone know why?
It is really beautiful, so maybe that is the reason...mmmm?

"Maxmom" couldn't look at the sun directly, but she pointed her camera to the sky and managed to get these pictures...
It is as if a rainbow has been wrapped around the sun - almost like a halo.
You can read more about 'sundogs'

And you can see more fabulous pictures

We have been having some really amazing weather here in Johannesburg lately.
I sat and watched the thunderstorm yesterday afternoon while it rained.
"Maxmom" says it rained "Cats and Dogs", but I didn't see any...?

I seemed to be the only 'dog' watching the storm...

After the storm we went for our usual walk and I got to splash in the puddles
...and make a few of my own too!

I've taken over "Maxdog's"  old habit of having a swim after my walks...

I love fetching the little yellow dumbell for Maxmom...
but sometimes I have to really search for it...
After my swim "Maxmom" dries me off thoroughly and I get to cuddle under a blanket or towel...
Then I wait nicely for my food...

Yesterday was special...I got to lie on the "BIG" chair with both "Maxmom" and "The Boss".
I am enjoying this while I can because soon I won't be able to fit anymore...
I love it when I can cuddle with "Maxmom"...
So...can anyone tell me anything more about the amazing
"SUNDOG"???

Have any of you seen one of them?
What did it look like?

Lotsalicks,

We don't know anything about sundogs either, but we will check back to see what you learn. We would love to snuggle with Mom too, but yes, you are correct, Toby, we grew too big too.

We finally got our video issue resolved and got to watch your beautiful Christmas video. It was so amazing to see the similarities between you and MaxDog. We truly believe he sent you to his earthly home.

Hey Toby,

you are very lucky to be able to see a sun dog or sun dogs. i have never seen one actually.
But i can tell you why they are called sun dogs.

the scientific name for it is parhelion which has a greek origin and means "next to the sun" this is acutally also the name in german. "nebensonne". well the english speaking people associated it with a dog or dogs, in case of two bright spots next to the sun, which is/are standing next to its owner. Just like Heel!

The photos i have seen from you and the link only show a sun halo which is also amazing but not quite a sun dog.

lots of love from germany :)

I'm with Ms ~K, when we lived in Alaska I became familiar with sundogs--They were amazing and I've never seen them since. I guess they don't happen in Virginia!

Toby, you are growing way to fast!! :-)

Hi Toby,

I've never heard of sundogs before, so you've taught this old dog something new.

Woofs,
Riley

PS I'm sure you already know this, but I think that you have found yourself the most wonderful home to live in, and I'm sure you will find a way to continue to share Maxmom's chair (even if it means a bigger chair) for those specail cuddles.

What a beautiful sundog. I have never seen one here in Scotland, although I'm told they do occur.
Could you please get Toby to explain to Bertie that being rubbed down by a towel when one is wet is supposed to be a pleasurable experience, and there is no need to try and attack the towel and rip it to shreds...
Cheers,
Gail.

Hi Toby! You are growing up to be such a handsome boy, and you are getting so big now, too! Mom wishes it would rain "cats and dogs" here. We haven't had any rain for a month!

Lots of love to you and your mom,
Cloud and his mom

PS. We loved your Christmas tribute video!

Dont worry, in my experience, any sized dog can fit on the Mom & Dads comfy chairs, trust me. Its just a matter of squishing and squirming...

Cool Sun dog!

Ma said something about you being adorable or something... and she wishes she could snuggle with your floppy puppyself. Watch out!

Happy Tuesday!

Toby - Do not let those humans convince you that a day will come when you no longer fit in the chair. Rusty and Kodiak both aspire to be lapdogs everyday of their lives - and it is entertaining to watch the hu-dad during those moments.

When you are cuddling with the Maxmom and your head is on her chest - you can hear her heartbeat. Did you know, little one, that her heart beats stronger and more true since the first time she held you in the palm of her hand? At that moment she fell in love with you and you became one of the most loved puppies on our planet. You are furry lucky, little one, furry lucky...

Scout and Freyja said...

PeeEss: we think that the sundog you saw today was your Maxdog smiling down on you from Heaven. He wanted to let you know that he was doing just fine and that he wasn't all that far away...

Sierra Rose said...

Oh Toby! Can you get any more handsome!! :) You are one special lucky pup and we agree with Scout 'n Freyja that the sundog could be sweet Max smiling down on you.

Hugs and snaggle-tooth kisses,
Sierra Rose

I've never heard of a sundog before but they're pretty.

And you, little Toby, you just get cuter by the day! I can't believe how much you've grown. Each post shows you growing more and more.

Hey little Toby. I am impressed that you are swimming already. Sometimes youngsters don't like that.

I hope you are enjoying your spring. That snuggle time with mom looks fantastic.
