HOW WE LOVE OUR CHILDREN!

GREETINGS FROM SOUTH AFRICA!
MAXMOM here...

I came across this scene today,
and it got me thinking...

If you are a regular reader of my blogs, you will know that I love to ponder on thoughts and ideas.
Perhaps it's my philosophical nature that prompts me to do this.

Anyway, the image of this car and its unusual number plate got me reaching for my camera...
...and thinking...!...

I wondered...

What pompted this particular father to buy his child such a smart, cool car?
... fully stamped with a timeless reminder to his child that "Dad" had purchased it ...?....

And then I was reminded of this beautiful  poem....

---xXx---

Remember Me When I Am Gone Away

Remember me when I am gone away.
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand.
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you planned:
Only remember me: you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had.
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than you should remember and be sad.

Christina Rossetti

...and I asked myself...
Don't we ALL want to be rememberred?...
...FONDLY?

As parents, what extraordinary measures we are prepared to take to touch our children's hearts!

It was just a thought!

Just beautiful. I will never forget all that my parents did for me and my brother. And I have tried to do the same for our children and grandchildren - I so do hope they will always remember my love.

I am 44 years old and my parents are 66, they are my best friends...There is so much love, respect and acceptance between us, a lifetime of good and bad, but always the love; no one will ever love and accept you the way your parents do!...That is very true in my case anyway and I am very lucky to have such great people in my life.

As my parents did for me - I did for my children - and - asked my children to remember - and to pass the same to my grandchildren.

It's a wonderful chain of love and legacy that we leave to our children and grandchildren - if - and only if - we choose to parent our children and not just raise them. There is a vast difference between raising a child and parenting a child. All good parents know this and the parents that don't know - well, they will never know.

A farmer will raise a crop. He will plant the seed and water that seed and when it has grown, he will cut down the produce to sell at market. The years' crop, once sold and gone, will be forgotten. It has served its purpose.

A parent blessed with a child will nurture the seeds within through love and guidance and attendance to the needs of that child. When the child has grown, that same parent will allow the child to wander and make its way in the world; however, throughout the life of that child, the parent will travel silently - carefully watching and waiting - for if that child should stumble to fall, no matter what its age, the parent will be there to catch the child - to hold it once again close to heart - to save it from harm.

Yes, there is a difference whether a parent chooses to raise a child or to parent a child. And, all good parents know...

My mom was nice enough to give me a place to come back to when my life took a turn I didn't expect YET I used it to change directions and get out of a bad relationship -

THEN she was nice enough to let me know I could get a dog -

And that dog was Whitney - now known as Khyra -

Khyra and I are quite thankful for her Doggy Nanny!

I will never forget everything my parents did for me, although it took a long time to realize that. As one of my children gets ready to leave college to go teach abroad, I am reminded that we are here when they need us, and we learn to stay in the background and watch them try to fly with new wings.

There is so much to think about as I read this,,,, and then the comments cause thinking too,
I was always grateful to my parents, but I don't think I really understood their sacrifice of what they went through- all the heartache I caused them- until it was too late and they were gone.
I was a wild seed, and yet they welcomed me back.
I could not tell them how much I appreciated what they did for me.
I think that is sad.
My mind goes many directions with this conversation. Minds sometimes turn 40 degree angles- when thinking starts.
But ,,,, I love that you are philophsical and like to think- i do too.

I wonder if maybe the son/daughter got the license plate themselves to thank their Dad... It is so neat to see that there are people out there that do appreciate their parents/grandparents/foster parents, etc. I have been so luck that way!

What's interesting is that I had read Max's Blog first and put some stuff about my Mama in my comment there before I cam here. Linda from Corgi Country
